Ron and Maxine Dust joined the Salt Creek A's in 1970 as Charter Members when their daughter, Lee Anne, was born. This fulfilled a life long interest in Model A's.

Model A's have been a major activity for the Dust Family for some time. Ron and Maxine have owned several beauties: a 1930 Tudor, a 1928 Tudor, and a 1929 Sport Coupe. Their son Ken restored a 1928 AA Truck with Ron's help. This was Ken's only transportation for a while, and Lee Anne fell heir to the 1930 Tudor.

While attending their first MAFCA National Convention in 1974, Maxine borrowed a printed velvet cocktail dress and was judged against several other entrants. That was before the current judging standard point system and she enjoyed the experience and camaraderie.

Since Maxine enjoys sewing, she naturally was drawn to the reproduction aspect of era fashions. She made herself a nurse's uniform from an original 1929 pattern, and her daughter Lee Anne wore Maxine's student nurse's uniform (circa 1952). This met the reproduction requirement for judging, plus she provided additional documentation with a photo of the same uniform worn in 1931. They entered as Mother and Daughter and received an award for their effort. Reproduction is truly Maxine's passion. She enjoys the challenge and opportunity of creating garments which are one of a kind. One special memory was making a gown for Lee Anne to enter with at a National Convention, which resulted in Lee Anne being awarded Best of Show in the Reproduction category. As a side note, she also has a hat collection which spans 100 years.

Over the years, there have been many adventures with owning Model A's which have added reams to Maxine and her family's memory bank. One time, a policeman stopped her while they were on their way to a MAFCA meet, and Maxine was indignant because she wasn't speeding or making any illegal turns. Truth of the matter was that the police officer had always wanted to stop a Model A. Another problem came when their car kept overheating on a trip to a MAFCA Meet in Colorado, causing Maxine to hang her feet out the window to evade the escaping steam. The problem was finally remedied with a new radiator.

Maxine endorses the Model A hobby and the many opportunities that MAFCA membership provides. She is a true witness to the fact that it's as a great way to meet and make new friends from all over the country. She recommends it to anyone. There's always something to do and enjoy. For those interested in era fashions, Maxine's advice is to attend National Conventions and observe all the many era fashions being worn.

We welcome Maxine back to the Era Fashion Committee as of January 2005. She formerly served on the committee from 1996 to 2000. Maxine brings a tremendous wealth of era fashion knowledge and expertise. We look forward to her generous and committed dedication towards furthering the work of the Era Fashion Committee.
