Photos from the 2007 Great Race

These are pictures of the Great American Race's stop in Maggie Valley, NC at Wheel Through Time Museum on Sunday, July 1st.

The red Huckster was not a part of the race, but is a local resident. There are also some V8's and other interesting cars included; most are Speedsters. The Black Tudor was entered by a team from Charleston, SC. The men recruit young guys to work on the car and switch out as navigators on the race.

One Speedster was sponsored by MAC's in NY. The Riley car was very unique, and the Sedan Delivery was the first one I've ever set eyes upon!

The cars are not allowed ANY form of odometer or GPS. Everything is done as "Drive 63 mph for 147 seconds, take a right. Drive 35 mph for 23 seconds, take a left..." From the pictures you can see the very large and accurate speedometers (1/16 of a mph?) and the stopwatch.

Fascinating sport, next year they retrace the round the work run from 100 years ago!
