I am a member of Borderland A's, a small chapter
of MAFCA in Southern New Mexico. I have been interested in the fashion
part of the Model A hobby ever since our chapter was founded in 2009. I purchased the fashion books published by MAFCA and have spent many enjoyable hours studying them. I especially like the pattern book as I can choose and make authentic era designs just right for me.
I was inspired to become an entrant in the fashion competition at the MAFCA National Convention in Puyallup in 2014. I found it much harder to find all the accessories and other items needed to go with the dress but did the best I could. Somehow, I managed to get first place, but more importantly, I learned a great deal! It was
fantastic to meet so many people --the committee members, judges, organizers,
fellow entrants and others--who were so knowledgeable and helpful. In
addition, there were the informative seminars and the Boutique--where
I found beautiful dresses I was able to wear as an entrant in the national conventions in 2016 and 2018.
I volunteered to be on the Era Fashion committee as I will enjoy working with the
other committee members and learning from their knowledge and
experience. I will also like being in a position to share
what I do know with others--especially any newly-interested club members who
are interested in era fashions.
