[Red Line]

Old cars have always been a big part of my married life. The first car my husband bought was a broken down Model A. He was 16 years old at the time. He bought a 1939 Ford truck when he was in college. That truck was part of our family and driven every day as a second car. As the children grew older, it was not practical any more, so it sat by the side of the garage, wasting away.

One day, in about 2007, he came in from the garage and told me that he was selling the truck and buying a Model A. I was surprised, but agreeable. We ended up with a 1930 Roadster. After we brought it home, he asked me if I wanted to drive it. When I pushed on the starter, the spring fell off and it would not start. Instead of driving it, he pushed the car down the street to get it started. Needless to say that was not a good introduction to the Model A era. However, I soon became a fan. Several years later he bought me a 1931 wide bed truck. Both of those cars only seat two people, so we bought a 1931 slant window sedan. My husband has passed away, but I still drive the Model A's occasionally. My son has said that he wants my pickup. I am so very happy that it will stay in the family.

I am a member of the Capitol A’s in Sacramento CA. At the present time, I am the club Property Custodian. It is my job to keep track of where all the club property is being stored. In the past, I have been the Era Fashion chair several times. My husband encouraged me to find out about era fashions. I could not seem to find anything original. My only option was to make the clothing. I like to look at the pictures in magazines and then try to make something that looks similar. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I don’t. It is always a personal challenge to see if I can do it. I have been a fashion judging entrant four times. I am also a senior judge.

I am glad to be a member of the Era Fashion Committee so that I can continue to learn and keep the hobby alive.
